Well, we’re on the last leg of another cross-country road trip…the 2nd in our new home on wheels! I guess we’d have to say that not much about this trip went the way we anticipated.
We thought we’d be making these last few miles 3 weeks ago. Then when my work schedule changed, we thought we’d just be delayed a week. And then Matthew’s work schedule changed, and that put us behind another week. Then there were just a lot more days that we both had to be still enough to work and videoconference and days that I just hurt and so we just didn’t get as far as we wanted on those days. But we’re thankful that we could have the flexibility that we needed, even if it required some extra $$.
We used road-side assistance three (3!) times and each time were thankful we had paid for road-side assistance! (Thanks to my careful, cautious, and well-prepared husband!) We were also thankful that it was never anything serious and that the Lord protected us the entire way.
We also went to the California DMV four (4!) times and eventually got the RV and car registered. It was a PAINFUL process. We did expect that from California. We expected it would be really bad. But didn’t expect it to be as bad as it was. But we survived. And then got our butts out of California as fast as we could! 🙂
We learned a lot; enjoyed being together along the way; laughed a lot; cried some (okay, just me); screamed a bit (not at each other, but at other drivers); saw a lot of friends; saw a lot of God’s amazing creation; talked to some interesting people; experienced some wide and varied weather; appreciated the creativity of towns, parks, and people; and humbly accepted help from many people who sacrificed money and time to help us, host us, drive us, buy us dinner, buy us gas, love on us, pray for us and put smiles on our faces. We’re forever grateful for the life and blessings the Lord has given us.
